Double Sevens: buy the 7 bar low in an uptrend

Double Sevens buys when price is above its 200 day SMA and the bar trades down to the lowest close of the last 7 bars. It sells once the high reaches the highest close of the last 7 bars. It trades long only and relies on short dips inside a longer uptrend.

Known weaknesses

  • There is no stop loss or target. A dip that keeps falling stays open until price recovers to a 7 bar high.
  • It only trades above the 200 day SMA, so it sits out downtrends and depends on uptrends continuing.
  • Only two runs recorded a profit factor (Nasdaq 100 Daily at 1.58 and S&P 500 Daily at 1.47). The rest come from sweeps without it.
  • The EUR/USD 3 minutes run made USD 74,877 but had a max drawdown of USD 155,691, about twice its profit.

Questions

About this strategy

Can Double Sevens run automatically in ProOrder?

Yes. It is a simple long only ProOrder system with one entry and one exit rule. The rewrite has not been compile checked, so backtest it before going live.

Which instruments were tested?

DAX 40, Dow Jones, EUR/USD, FTSE 100, Gold, Nikkei 225, S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100. All listed runs were profitable, with Nasdaq 100 Daily the best at EUR 14,159.6 over 743 trades.

How much drawdown did it have at 1 contract?

The best run on Nasdaq 100 Daily had a max drawdown of EUR 2,786 with a 63.12% win rate. Without a stop, a single trade can go deeper than past results show.

Why daily bars?

The 200 day SMA trend filter and the 7 bar lookbacks are meant for daily swings. The one intraday test (EUR/USD 3 minutes) had a far worse drawdown to profit ratio.
