Reversi

Two down bars followed by two up bars trigger a long at the next open, and the opposite sequence triggers a short. Stop and target are both set to the signal bar's distance from close to low for longs, or high to close for shorts. An opposite signal reverses the position.

Known weaknesses

  • Only tested on GBP/USD Daily.
  • Profit factor was not recorded, and the win rate was 49.1% with equal stop and target distances.
  • The average trade was USD 3.35 over 1,619 trades, which leaves little room for costs above the tested 1.5-point spread.

How to load it

  1. Copy the code with the copy button above the code block.
  2. In ProRealTime, open a chart of the instrument and timeframe you want to test, then open ProOrder > New trading system and choose "Create with programming".
  3. Paste the code, give the system a name and save it.
  4. Click "Backtest", set your own spread and position size, and run it before you consider trading it live.

Questions

About this strategy

Does Reversi work in ProOrder?

Yes, it uses next-bar entries with a stop and target, which ProOrder supports. The code was rewritten and not yet compile-checked, and the stats are from the earlier version.

What did GBP/USD Daily show?

It made USD 5,419.80 over 1,619 trades with a max drawdown of USD 1,946.40.

How much capital for 1 contract?

The max drawdown at 1 contract was USD 1,946.40. Stops vary with each signal bar, so risk per trade is not fixed.
